  • Fairview tutor

"The Santa Monica Public Library is a vibrant community center and I am proud to be a part of that community by helping a young student. Tutoring is a wonderful way to give back to the community in a very meaningful, personal way.”

Library guides are stationed in the Main Library lobby. They circulate, answer directional questions from Library visitors, and assist users with self-checkout. Volunteers are needed for 2 to 3 hour shifts during regular Library hours.  Training is provided prior to serving as a Guide and a six month minimum commitment is required. For more information, call (310) 458-8646 or email us at smplvolunteer@smgov.net.

Santa Monica Reads Book Discussion Group Leader
Get involved in the annual Santa Monica Reads program by volunteering as a discussion group leader.  Santa Monica Reads takes place each spring and the Library recruits volunteers approximately four months before the program begins.  The Library provides training for discussion group volunteers who then have the opportunity to lead public book discussions, on the featured title and author, at Library locations and other venues throughout Santa Monica. For more information, visit the Santa Monica Reads website or call the Library at (310) 458-8600.

    Shut-In Service Volunteer
Volunteers interested in books and people can directly aid Santa Monica's homebound residents. Volunteers spend several hours each week selecting and delivering library materials to those that are homebound. Visits are eagerly anticipated by our homebound patrons, and can last anywhere from five to thirty minutes.  Shut-In Service volunteers are required to make a minimum one year commitment to the program. For more information, call (310) 458-8646 or email us at shut.in@smgov.net.
