    Adult Literacy Volunteer
    Volunteer literacy tutors work one-on-one with adult learners in a library setting. Training hours and a minimum six month commitment are required. Tutors meet with learners once or twice per week for 1 to 2 hour sessions. For more information, call

    L.E.A.R.N. Homework Help Volunteer
    Join the L.E.A.R.N. homework help team to make a difference in children’s lives and to give them the confidence they need to succeed in school.  L.E.A.R.N. offers free homework help and skills building in reading comprehension for students in grades 1 through 8. L.E.A.R.N. takes place at the Main Library on Mondays and Wednesdays, 3:30-6:00pm, and at the Pico Library on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:30-6:00pm. It is a drop-in program, with no registration required. Volunteers work with students one-on-one for 20-minute sessions. Volunteers are asked to commit to two hours per week for at least three months. High school students, adults, and seniors are welcome to apply.  Volunteers receive a short orientation to the program and are provided with supplies to aid with instruction. The L.E.A.R.N. program runs throughout the school year.     Santa Monica Reads Book Discussion Group Leader
    Get involved in the annual Santa Monica Reads program by volunteering as a discussion group leader. Santa Monica Reads takes place each spring or summer and the Library recruits volunteers approximately four months before the program begins. The Library provides training for discussion group volunteers who then have the opportunity to lead public book discussions, on the featured title and author, at Library locations and other venues throughout Santa Monica.     Shut-In Service Volunteer
    Volunteers interested in books and people can directly aid Santa Monica's homebound residents. Volunteers spend several hours each week selecting and delivering library materials to those that are homebound. Visits are eagerly anticipated by our homebound patrons, and can last anywhere from five to thirty minutes. Shut-In Service volunteers are required to make a minimum one year commitment to the program. For more information, call (310) 458-8646 or email us at shut.in@smgov.net.
