15th Anniversary of Santa Monica's Main Library

Santa Monica Public Library offers 5 convenient Library locations in 8.2 square miles. The Library Improvements Project of 2001-2005 established renovation of 3 Branch Libraries and construction of the new Main Library, designed by Moore Ruble Yudell Architects and Planners. 

Commemorating the 15th Anniversary John Ruble, Partner, Moore Ruble Yudell created this video celebrating the design and building of the Main Library. The video highlights the aesthetics, functionality, timelessness, and the goals behind design decisions that reflect a modern multiple use Library. A Library as a community center, a lifelong learning center, and a place where Santa Monicans can realize their dreams. 

The mission of the Library is “Preserving the Past, Serving the Present and Shaping the Future.” The Main Library represents each of those statements - from the Gold LEED rated facility designed to showcase its reading areas, community rooms, and books through two-story window walls that face the street and provide views to the ocean, to the public art and the open-air Central Courtyard.

The Santa Monica Public Library system is a Library Journal 5 star rated Library for 10 years in a row and a testament to the commitment and investment of Santa Monica to reading and learning and exploring new ideas and making dreams come true.
