On the Web:

American Association of Individual Investors  A non-profit organization to provide programs of education, information and research to investors. Much of the site information may be used free (some required registration which is also free); other information available only to members ($49 per year).

Annual Reports Online  Besides the Annual Report Library includes information about annual reports and how to locate them and many useful links to other financial information on the Web.

Bloomberg Online  Stock market news and analysis. Much free data or subscribe for additional services.

Corporate Financials Online  "Fastest direct links to news from publicly-traded companies." Company Earnings News, Company Dividend News, Company News, Market Snapshot, Wall Street Opinion.

Investment FAQ  Answers to your questions investments and personal finance on topics including financial planning, retirement plans, bonds, insurance, mutual funds, derivatives, stocks, real estate.

Investopedia.com  Just like an investment encyclopedia, this site provides information on topics relevant to investors. Includes "Basics" like Stock Basics, Investment Scams, Market Index Basic, Reading Financial Tables; "More Advanced Topics" like Buying on Margin or Short Selling; and "Active Trading" like Trading Indicators or Trading Patterns. Excellent information for new and not-so-new investors.

Kiplinger.com  Kiplinger, known for its investment advice, presents a ranking of online brokers using a weighted system.  Check for additional articles in Kiplinger's magazine that rank brokers.

Public Register's Annual Report Service  Annual reports for 3,000+ public companies. Free.

Trading Charts  Free financial charts of stock market prices, market indexes and money markets. Charting is daily and plots technical indicators such as closing price, trading volume and moving averages. Written technical analysis for each chart provides an interpretation of market movements.

  • Barron's National Business and Financial Weekly 
    Covers the markets, indicators, and indexes. Stock and bond prices, government securities, commodity futures, foreign exchange rates, market indexes. Extensive statistics.
     
  • Dictionary of Finance and Investment Terms (John Downes) 
    Over 3,000 terms defined clearly and simply. Cross-references and useful examples. A standard in the field.
     
  • Financial Times 
    North American edition of a top British financial paper. Worldwide coverage of financial, business, and economic news. Stock, bond, and commodity prices, money rates, exchange rates, and more.
     
  • Investor's Business Daily 
    Primarily statistics but each issue profiles an important business leader and presents an article on a company and a top business story. Includes Dow Jones and other stock price index charts, foreign exchange rates stock and bond prices, money rates, government securities, etc.
     
  • Standard & Poor's Outlook
    Analyzes and projects business and stock market trends; includes purchase & sell recommendations.
     
  • Standard & Poor's Creditweek 
    Weekly publication focusing on ratings, trends, and outlook for fixed income securities. Offers ratings analysis.
     
  • Value Line Investment Survey 
    Investment advisory service analyzes and reports on companies in over 90 industries. Provides statistics, charts, and explanatory text. Ranked lists of "timely stocks," best and worst performers, highest and lowest PEs, etc. Offers advice on investment policy, business and financial outlook, and recommended stock purchases.

  • Business & Company Resource Center
    Search for news and articles on investing. An extensive business, company and industry database with news, articles, financial documents, rankings, company histories, industry reports, and more. Includes lots of investment and financial publications.
     

  • Infotrac OneFile
    Find periodical articles on investing. Infotrac is a large periodicals database featuring the full text and citations for newspaper and magazine articles; includes many financial & investment publications.
     

  • ProQuest National Newspapers
    Look for newspaper articles about the advertising industry, which provides full text to the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, Washington Post and other leading newspapers from roughly 1985-present.

Some suggested subject terms include: Investments, Investment Advisers, Investment Advisory Newsletters, or Investment Analysis; Capital Investments, Art as an Investment, Collectibles as an Investment, or Foreign Investments; Options, Bonds, Securities; Financial Planners or Financial Planning; Tax Shelters, Portfolio Management, or Dividend Reinvestment; etc. You may also search by company name or ticker symbol, e.g. IBM or MSFT.
