- Mission Statement
"The Santa Monica Public Library Board shall have charge of the administration of the Santa Monica Public Library."
- Responsibilities, Jurisdiction, Authority
- Charter Provisions - The Library Board shall have powers and be required to:
- Make and enforce such by-laws, rules, and regulations as may be necessary for the
administration, government and protection of the City Library;
and
- Accept money, personal property or real estate donated to the Library Board of "the
Santa Monica Public Library or its predecessor."

- Composition
Membership and Size - There shall be a Library Board consisting of five members to be appointed
by the City Council from the qualified electors of the City who shall serve four-year terms and
no member of said Board shall hold any paid office or employment in the City Government. (SMCC 1009).
