For your convenience, the library offers several services that allow you to request items from the library.
Our Will Call Service allows you to request up to 5 available items for same day pick-up. Call (310) 458-8614 or a branch that owns an available copy and indicate that you'd like to request a Will Call. During the call staff will retrieve the item(s) to set aside for you to pick-up by the end of the next day. There is no charge for Will Call Service.
Hold requests allow you to place yourself on a waiting list for titles that are presently checked out, on-order, or being processed. You may also place hold requests for items that show as available in our catalog. You may have up to 25 total holds at one time. There is no charge for hold requests.
Members have several options for placing hold requests:
You can be notified that your hold is ready for pickup by phone or email. You can also use the My Borrowing function in the online catalog to see if your hold is available for pick-up.
Interlibrary Loan Service enables library members in good standing to obtain materials from other libraries throughout the country. Interlibrary Loan Service is available only for items that are not in the Santa Monica Public Library collection. There is a $5.00 non-refundable fee to initiate the interlibrary loan request and sometimes an additional fee from the lending library. Please note that some items are difficult to acquire. For information see staff at the Reference Desk, or contact staff via Telephone Reference at (310) 434-2608 or Email Reference.
Members can make suggestions for materials to add to the collection using the Suggestions for Purchase Form. All suggestions are submitted to a subject specialist for consideration.
