Santa monica/ malibu unified school district Suggested Reading Lists

These reading lists have been prepared by the librarians of the Santa Monica Public Library in collaboration with the Elementary Library Coordinators and Librarians of the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District. The lists provide a selection of good books that kids enjoy. Reading levels are suggestions only as every student learns to read at his or her own speed. While some books are perfect to read aloud, kids can read many of the books, especially books in a series, by themselves.

These books are recommended for the incoming grade level. For example, a 3rd grader during this school year would be given the 4th grade suggested reading list.

International Childrens Digital Library (ICDL)  The collection's focus is on identifying materials that help children to understand the world around them and the global society in which they live. The materials in the collection, all presented in the original languages in which they were published, reflect similarities and differences in cultures, societies, interests, and lifestyles of peoples around the world.

Tumble Books Library TumbleBooks Library is an online collection of animated, talking picture books which teach kids the joy of reading in a format they'll love. TumbleBooks are created by adding animation, sound, music and narration to existing picture books in order to produce an electronic picture book which you can read, or have read to you!
